Beh…

Posted in General at 4:26 pm by Jules

Ok, so I’ve found the end result of mixing down on my MR-8 doesn’t sound nearly as good on the computer as it does on the machine with headphones. SOooo… I’m going to start adding my effects and mixing my tracks via software. I think it sounds a lot better. Plus, I can hear what it will actually sound like when other poor souls subject themselves to it.

So, if anyone has listened to Georgia, Help Me Make It Through the Night, or Amazing Grace, go listen to them again. They sound better now.

More Stuff

Posted in General at 7:47 am by Jules

I recorded and uploaded three new songs yesterday.

Georgia On My Mind (’specially for my baby)
Amazing Grace (for Odessa)
Nocturne in E Flat Major by Chopin

There are lots of wrong and missed notes in that Nocturne, but I decided to go ahead and upload it, anyway. It’s my very favorite piano piece of all time… so beautiful.

I also added a link to the directory over in my links section… *points over to the right* Maybe one day I’ll start writing my OWN stuff and throwing it up in there. I should, but I can’t seem to allow my creativity to take over. Meh. Anyway…

The weekend has been decent enough so far. Yesterday was hit and miss. I was in a good mood part of the time and in a bad mood part of the time. Having a very FAT day. Bah. But, I took Logan to see Hoodwinked, and it was pretty good. The only other things of note I did were house cleaning, shopping, and recording. More house cleaning must occur today, too. (I hate cleaning.) Trying to get everything somewhat presentable for this coming weekend when Jake arrives. *faints… wakes up* OMG…. *faints again* I cannot freakin’ wait, man. WEEEEEE!!!

I’m in a bit of a babbling mood this morning, so if this is too boring, well… no one is probably reading, anyway. LOL. I just love typing on this laptop keyboard. I really should turn that like into something creative and try to write a bit or something. But I’m not going to because I’m a big ol’ wussy chicken who’s afraid of actually doing anything creative because it will just outright suck. Fear is the pits. (Did I just use “the pits” in a sentence? OMG. What is this? 1957?) Maybe one day I’ll write something. Until that day, I’ll just keep bitching about it and poor-mouthing myself, I suppose.

For now, I’m going to drink coffee, chat a bit, and maybe watch some T.V. I have about an hour and a half before I have to get ready to go to church and play the piano. I don’t have a clue what special I’m going to play today, either. I should probably practice something. K L8R BAI

6 Days

Posted in General at 9:58 am by Jules

So, we’ve been counting down for over a month now, and we’re down to less than a week. I’m so excited and nervous and will be fairly useless over the next week, I’m sure. I honestly can’t remember the last time I was so looking forward to something. It’s possible I never have looked forward to something so much. YEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! This time next week, I definitely won’t be online typing a blog entry. :P

In other news, I’ve been recording some more stuff on my MR8. I recorded several piano accompaniments last night, but my vocals were not very good, so I didn’t finalize anything. I have a directory in which I will keep everything I record, so you can go check them out here:

http://www.nookra.com/music/julie

Those two pieces with piano (Nocturne in G Minor and Learn to Be Lonely) were recorded using the condesner mic built into the recorder. I did some last night using my other mic, strategically aimed at the back of the piano, and I think THAT sound is much better. Hopefully, I will have some time this weekend to get some more guitar/vocal stuff done. It’s a fairly time-consuming process. Play the guitar part first. If you screw up, stop and start over (there is a way to punch in and out and only redo certain parts, but I’m not that adept yet). Go back and practice the vocals. Record it. If you screw up, stop and start over again. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Hopefully the end results will improve as I play around more with the recorder. I’ve learned how to apply effects and bounce tracks on it now, so I don’t have to use external software to create an actual song. Pretty cool. I still have tons and tons to learn, though. I suppose that will all come with time and practice. As soon as I quit smoking and start vocalizing and practicing more, hopefully my vocals will improve, too. They’re so inconsistent now, it’s crazy. One day I’ll sound ok. Another day, I’ll sound like shit. Meh!

NOTE: The self-cleaning cycle on my oven frickin’ stinks. PEE YEW

*shakes head*

I’m a very casual person. I usually only “dress up” when necessary. Yesterday, I decided to dress up a bit for work just for the hell of it. Here are some of the comments I had to deal with:

Female Coworker: “OOh! What you so dressed up for?”

Male Coworker #1: “Hi. My name is [insert name here], and you are?? OH! It’s Julie!”

Female Coworker: *sigh*
Me: “What?”
FC: “Clomp clomp clomp!”
Me: “Well! YOU were clomping yesterday!”
FC: “Yeah, but I don’t think I was clomping that loud!”
Me: :P

Male Coworker #2: “Where you all dressed up going?”

Male Business Associate: “You look nice today, by the way.”

Male Coworker #3: “That looks nice on you! I mean it!”

Male Coworker #4: “DAMN DAWG! Whatchoo so dressed up fo’?”

I think it will be awhile before I dress up for work again. Not because of the comments, necessarily, but because I was just uncomfortable all day long, and it affected my work.

9 more days…. single digits… a little over a week… OMG
