On to Step Two

Posted in General at 7:38 am by Jules

I had my doctor’s appointment Friday. Apparently, the people who read my MRI results found nothing out of the ordinary. My “doctor” and I, however, don’t fully buy that, as my arm still hurts gosh awfully bad. So, I’ve been referred to an orthopedic doctor and will take my MRI results with me for him to peruse. I suppose we’ll see what happens. I know I don’t have any training in medicine and reading MRIs, but those comparison pictures sure did look like it was a rotator cuff tear. I have to wonder if these folks who read my MRI results are the same ones who, a few months ago, read my x-rays and decided I had scoliosis. Yeah, you’re doing a GREAT job!

We’ll see.

Welcome to my Body

HA! Fooled you.

So, I had an MRI done on my shoulder because my arm’s been hurting likea sumbitch for months now. Here is a shot of the results.

Here is a shot I found online showing a normal shot and a torn rotator cuff. I wonder.

Merry Christmas

Posted in General at 8:29 am by Jules

It’s Christmas morning. It doesn’t feel like Christmas morning. Jake has to work today, so we did Santa Claus with Katie last night. She seemed happy/surprised enough, but it just doesn’t seem the same as getting up early in the morning, everyone all bleary-eyed, tearing into gifts and taking horrible pictures of your family. Instead, I woke up when Jake left for work this morning (at 4:30 a.m.) and couldn’t go back to sleep. So, I’ve been drinking coffee and looking for stuff to do online for three hours.

Katie is playing dress-up and watching t.v. and whacking on her whack-a-mole game a little bit. Logan is in her room, chatting on the Eragon movie site. I’m sitting out here drinking coffee and chatting and listening to Little Einsteins and wishing Jake were home. *sigh* Add to that the fact that it’s nasty outside, and… well, it just doesn’t FEEL like Christmas. Maybe it will later today when we go over to my parents’ for the whole family thing.

On a happy note, Jake got me a white and blue sapphire pendant and matching earrings for Christmas. Wow. It’s gorgeous!! I will take pictures at some point and post them for ALL the world to see. :D Logan is quite happy with her laptop, as well she should be! (Many thanks to my brother for such a nice FREE piece of equipment.) Now, I just need to figure out what limitations to impose on her ‘net usage and how to enforce them. She’s 12. She’s smart. She’s not very technologically savvy. We’ve told her the ‘net rules. Don’t give out your name, age, school, town, anything personal. I don’t think she will, but I still worry. However, I want her to learn how to do these things because I think it’s going to be a necessary skill as time moves on in our world of technology. She wants a cell phone, but I just refuse to do that. At any rate, she’ll be figuring stuff out soon enough, I suppose.

In the mean time, here I sit… stuff I could be doing but things I don’t want to do on Christmas day. I was going to tinker around with our network today, but I’m not going to do that yet. I’ll wait a little while.

So, Merry Christma-hanna-kwanzi-ka-yule to all of you. I hope your day is grand! :)

If you want…

Posted in General at 1:40 pm by Jules

… to feel stupid, find your journal from high school and read it.

Oh man. I’ve been watching Logan for a year or so now (she’s 12), and I’ve been thinking to myself, “I was never that stupid/silly/goofy.” AU CONTRAIRE! LMAO! Dude… I need to type this stuff up somewhere and hang onto it. I was SO boy crazy. I’d write about how much I liked two or three different guys in the same journal entry. GAH.

Anyway - I love finding old things like this and reading them. It’s fun.

Cherokee Teaching

Posted in General at 8:22 am by Jules

I was reading through all my old blog entries this morning to find things which needed to be marked private (my daughter will now have ‘net access, and there are some things I don’t want her to read), and I came across this Cherokee teaching story. I love this. It merits re-posting (on a regular basis!).

An old Cherokee chief is teaching his grandson about life:
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is
a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

“One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies,
false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.

“The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity,
humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth,
compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you -
and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked
his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old chief simply replied, “The one you feed.”

CHiPs

Posted in General at 11:07 am by Jules

There’s this newshow on Disney channel called Handy Manny. Katie’s watching it thismorning, and it showed the dude who does his voice. Turns out it’sWilmer Valderrama - of That ’70s Show fame - so when I saw him on there, I wanted to make sure that’s who it was. I hopped on over to IMDB.com and lo and behold, it was him.

And what did I see listed in pre-production? A CHiPs movie with him as Ponch! YAY!!!

Y’all, I used to LOVE that show, and I had the biggest crush on Ponch.I think this dude will be a great substitute for Erik Estrada.

* entipy looks around

Okay… umm… should I go and hide now?

Kids! ARGH!

Posted in General, Kids and Parenting Stuff at 7:40 am by Jules

Kids kill me with their see-through manipulation tactics. You’d think they would learn after awhile, but they just don’t. LOL.

Katie got done with her breakfast this morning, and I saw her go and dip into her candy. She retrieved a piece and had it clutched in her tiny little hand. I saw her looking at me from across the room, and I knew what was going on, so I just kept looking at my computer screen, handling my business. She made her way across the room over to me and stood by the chair. I looked at her, and she said, “Julie… I love you.” I said, “I love you, too, Katie,” and went about my business again. Keep in mind, candy is still clutched in hand. She walked off a little and started watching t.v. again. About five minutes later, she made her way back over to my chair and just stood there, looking at me. I looked at her and said, “Yes?” She said, “Nothing,” and went to watching t.v. again. Now, keep this in mind, I’ve been working with her on just ASKING when she wants something instead of trying to manipulate her way into it. Finally, she comes back over to me and says, “Julie…” I say, “Yes?” She says, “Can I have this piece of candy?” I say, “Yes,” and she eats it.

Now, she would’ve been so much happier so much earlier had she just asked in the first place. I’ve told her that time and time again, yet… the “I love you” manipulation still ensues. It’s so funny how kids think they’re being slick and how dumb they think adults are from such an early age. Ah the joy of parenthood!

On another note, I’m off work for the holidays - YAY - except for inventory on the 29th. It would be even better if Jake were off, but he had to go back to work today. *le sigh* At any rate, I’m going to have an MRI done on my shoulder today to find out what’s wrong with my arm. Yay. More doctor crap.

Time to go get ready!

How To Be A Shitty Friend

Posted in General at 10:28 am by Jules

Start bitching and whining to your best friend about how rotten your day is and how unloved you feel… then have her tell you, “My day is good… it being my birthday and all.”

Well, don’t I feel like the worst friend on the fucking planet? :(

So, Chelle - I’m sorry! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love you! :)

Special… from China

Posted in Kids and Parenting Stuff at 4:00 pm by Jules

We went out to eat Chinese the other night, and the waitress presented us with a scroll calendar for the year 2007. When we got home, I rolled it up and stuck it in the junk drawer, so I’ll know where it is come January 1st.

The morning after we received the scroll, I came out of the bedroom after getting ready for work, and Logan and Katie were in the kitchen. Logan was giggling, Katie was holding the scroll and smiling hugely at me. Just as I’m thinking, “WTF is going on,” Katie walks up to me, holds out the scroll and says, “Here! A special squirrel from China!”

LMAO - which is what Logan did…. then I stifled and told everyone later.

Gotta love a toddler.

My New Word

Posted in General at 3:41 pm by Jules

I created a new word today while chatting with Michelle via IM.

Typetive - same as talkative only with type because you’re typing instead of talking.

DUH!

We tried it with the spelling “typative,” but Michelle said “typetive” looks cleaner - more like expletive. I concurred, so there is the new word.

LOL

*sigh*

If I make it through this day without having a complete emotional and/or mental breakdown and/or passing out, I’ll be doing great.

I need good drugs and sleep.

Broadband Bullshit

Posted in General at 11:18 am by Jules

We live in the country. As with any given living situation, there are pros and cons to this. Personally, I like living out there for the most part. It’s quiet, it’s dark at night, the air is clean, and when the stars are out, you can actually see them! Pros, these, for sure. The cons don’t quite overcome the pros, but they’re annoying, anyway. The ones I count as the most irritating are:  no decent cell phone service (other than Southern Linc which is what we have but whose cell phone service sucks ass when you’re not talking to another SoLinc customer), no high-speed internet, and no close proximity to 24/7 stores of any sort. (The closest being 3-5 miles into town.)

We discovered just recently that one of those cons was going to be NULL. Evidently, DSL has finally come available in our area. GREAT! We placed our order on December 2nd. As of Tuesday, we still didn’t have a modem. *GRAR* I was on the phone with Windstream several times a day up until yesterday when a supervisor finally told me they would have a tech drop a modem by our house (since we still hadn’t received the TWO via UPS we were supposed to receive). Guess what…. he did!! YAY! So, yesterday - about 4:30 - Jake got the modem at home and started hooking it up. By the time I got home around 5:20 or so, I figured it would be up and running. I walk in, and he says, “You’re not gonna believe this shit.”  Turns out, the set-up process wouldn’t go through because they’re experiencing an OUTAGE right now. Fucking great, man, I tell you. We *finally* get our modem after *finally* getting high-speed capability, and we can’t sign on and do shit because they’re having an outage. *sigh* We tried again later, and I called tech support AGAIN for more details. Turns out, the server we’re supposed to be connecting to isn’t accepting usernames and passwords, and the problem has been going on for two DAYS. “We’re working to resolve the problem and will call you when it’s resolved.” Well whoop-dee-fucking-doo!

Maybe today it will be fixed.

The only saving grace in all this is that they have credited us for our entire first month of DSL service. If these “outages” occur on a frequent basis, they will also be crediting us for every DAY we miss service.

Love this joke…

Posted in General at 2:59 pm by Jules

A  city cop was on his horse waiting to cross
the street when a little girl stopped beside him on her shiny new bike. “Nice bike,” the cop said, “Did Santa bring it to you?”

“Yep,” the little girl said, “He sure did!”
The cop looked the bike over and handed the
girl a $20 ticket for a safety violation, saying, “Next year tell Santa to put a reflector light on the back of it.”

The young girl looked up at the cop and said,
“Nice horse you got there sir, did Santa bring it to you?”  “Yes, he sure did,” chuckled the cop.

The little girl looked up at the cop and
said, “Next year tell Santa the dick goes underneath the horse, not on top of it.

I was going to blog about my co-worker calling and waking me after midnight last night, but I just haven’t had a chance today to do it up right. He wanted to borrow my guitar. Yeah, THAT’S a reason to call someone with a man who has to get up at 3:30 a.m. and two children in the house.

ASS!!

Y’all have a good weekend. :)

from Gossip

Posted in General at 10:55 am by Jules

The following was posted on G-blog by Gossip back in March of 2004. I always thought it was hilariously perfect, so I figured I’d share. :)

ProstiPop

I hereby proclaim the new official term to describe the casting show / petridish cloning boy/girl band “music”:

ProstiPop.

“Prosti” as in “prostitutes”, “pop” as in “pop music”. It’s not thatfar fetched if you think about it. They want fame and money now, without much work (face it, kids… one or two months in a “talent camp” is nothingcompared to a life full of devotion and hard work), they are willing tosell their soul as well as their bodies/looks (as in “they’re justpuppets, Jim”) for media coverage, and they are fine with the idea tonot have old friends as band members but complete strangers.

Thus, I think they qualify as prostitutes.

They might not do the producers, but if you are willingto sign 20-year contracts (!) just to become yet another no-talentass-clown on national TV then you’re either desperate or an idiot orboth.

What do you think?

PS: I also proclaim the term “YANTASCONT” (”yet another no-talent ass-clown on national TV”) to be a valid new media buzzword.
PPS: Spread the word, stop the ProstiPoppers.

Merry Christmas to Me

Posted in General at 1:41 pm by Jules

This is my Christmas present from me to me! I went to the music store today during lunch, told the guy my pocketbook size, played around with a few guitars for a bit, and this is what I walked out with in my hand.

I can’t wait to get it home, re-string it, and *really* play something!

Takamine isn’t the best guitar in the world, but this one plays well enough for me. I can’t afford no Martin! :P

Here it is! Our bootyful Christmas tree. We all played a hand in decorating this, so we’re all responsible for the purty-ness. The icicles were Jake’s idea, and while they’re very pretty, the clean-up (already) isn’t going to be fun!!!

Merry Christma-hanna-kwanzi-ka-yule!

Weekend YAY

Posted in General at 3:03 pm by Jules

We had a really good weekend (all things considered) and got some early Christmas presents and good news. Here is a lil’ sum-up:

We’re finally going to have high speed internet at home! YAY! We’ve been operating on dial-up (at whopping speeds of up to 24.000!) for years now. FINALLY! I called the phone company to have caller ID added to our service, and the guy told me we’re eligible for high speed now. I said, “Yeah! Hook it up!” So, we should have that on Thursday of this week.

In accordance with the “Yay we have new technology” stint above, we also got a new portable phone for the house. It’s a Panasonic expandable thingie-ma-bob. (I tried finding it, but I couldn’t seem to find the exact model.) In addition, I got a new coffee maker, too. Yay!

We got most of our Christmas shopping done on Saturday, and afterwards, we took the girls to see Happy Feet. CUTE movie!! I think Jake and I may have enjoyed it more than Katie and Logan did. LOL.

I was also afforded a little extra Christmas bonus from my second job, so now I’ll be able to buy myself a new guitar.

OMGS YAY!!! Great weekend, y’all. Hopefully the week will continue in that tradition. ;)
