Book List Meme

Posted in General at 11:49 am by Jules

I’m almost ashamed to post this except that I recognize we all have our faults, and I’m a lot less hesitant to mention/admit mine than I used to be. I’m not stupid; I just haven’t read as much as I should have throughout the years. Something I’m trying to rectify now.

Oh, so, anyways. Here’s the list!

Modified book list meme from http://larrythelabrat.livejournal.com/
I bolded the ones I’ve read completely. Italicized are ones I read part of. I think I’ve probably read more; I just can’t remember.

Farewell, Little Brother

Posted in General at 2:11 pm by Jules

My parents’ 18-year-old poodle, Beau, died this morning. (Beau is short for Jacquelyn’s Petit Thibeaut.) Considering his age, if you’re a pet lover, I don’t think I really need to say much more about how this day has been for our family.

He had a great life, that little dog! :)

GAH!

Posted in General at 8:53 am by Jules

The heat is set on 72. I’m freezing! What the hell?

Also, I let myself run out of “real” coffee, so I’m having to drink instant this morning. Can we say, “OMGYUCK?”

I’m about to get ready to go into the fray. (into the fray = going to Wal-Mart) Yay. I love Wal-Mart, especially on Saturdays!

OMGs PROGRESS??

Posted in General at 9:28 am by Jules

I suppose I should flagellate myself for not doing this sooner, but…

I called my surgeon (gastric bypass surgeon) today to discuss my medication dilemma with my shoulder. Despite my warnings to the contrary, since this whole thing started, all the damn doctors have wanted to give me for pain is anti-inflammatory medication. There is a very good and real reason why I’m not supposed to take these drugs… EVER, if possible!

So, after trying to take them, anyway (out of pure desperation) because other pain meds just weren’t working, and after having VERY unwanted adverse side effects to the other ONE medication which works a little bit, I decided to call my surgeon and ask (i.e. = beg) for help. After talking to the nurse for a full two minutes (*GASP*), she told me the name of one anti-inflammatory which should work and not hurt my stomach, and pretty much the only one my surgeon would allow. It’s called Arthrotec, and it’s a combination NSAID and protective stomach medication. Well, DUH! Don’t you think “ordinary” doctors should know about this medication for someone with possible stomach problems?

I wish I lived in Atlanta and could see my surgeon for everything. He and his nurses are SO much better/nicer/more helpful than anyone else I’ve come into contact with. *SIGH*

So, anyway. I called the Orthopedist’s office and left a message for someone to call me back, so I can see about getting a prescription for this drug. The bad thing: it’s not on my (insert as many horrible expletives here as you can) insurance company’s “preferred drug” list, so it’s going to probably cost me a fortune. You know what, though? If it gets rid of this fucking pain, SO BE IT!

That’s all. (For now. :P)

My arm hurts like a serious mother fucker today.

But I did my morning pages.

That’s all. (For now, anyway.)

Not Enough Coffee

Posted in General at 11:51 am by Jules

I don’t know how/if I’ll make it through today. I am so exhausted, and the black circles under my eyes are making their way steadily down toward my chin. It’s all I can do to just… keep going.

*sigh*

Here’s a big gripe for the day: As much money as fucking health insurance companies RAKE in, you’d think they could keep a properly-running, efficient, and USEFUL website. Most of the HIC websites I’ve visited are really just shit. Trash. Trashy shit. Shitty trashy drivelly shit. I’ve been trying to get into the members’ section of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia for the past thirty minutes. I enter all the information they ask for, hit continue, and … nothing. It refreshes that page and tells me to enter my information. Well, I already DID that, mother fuckers.

*SIGH*

At least I get to go to lunch with Jake today. Highlight. Yay.

Dumb Rummy

Posted in General at 1:02 pm by Jules

My brother and I go to lunch together several times per week, and we always play Rummy. Usually, I win, and he whines. Today was an exercise in the ultimate competition. “I got it. You can’t have it.” We were down to two cards each, and we both realized we were each holding two aces. Rather than discard either of those, we kept discarding whatever else we drew, therefore giving each other “rummy on the board” with every hand until we ended up with no cards left in the draw or discard piles. At that point, we really didn’t know what to do, so we just each took thirty points off our score. LOL.

Funny thing is, we each gave each other more points in the several rounds of rummy on the board than we would’ve just giving away one of the aces.

Oh well. Competition reigns supreme, I suppose.

Me and MEME

Posted in General at 9:09 am by Jules

I haven’t really blogged for awhile. I’m not sure why, to be honest, other than the fact that my irrational brain has been preoccupied with other things, and I don’t feel comfortable sharing EVERYTHING in public.

That having been said, I will try to post an update soon, but for now - a meme taken from Mary’s LJ:

If you so feel the urge, here’s a getting to know you sort of meme. So if you’ve got a few spare moments, go for it!

01. Can you cook? Yes!
02. What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator? Well, that would depend on whether or not I was alone. If I were alone, I would probably stand there and concoct all sorts of ridiculous nonsense problems then dwell on them until I was miserable. If I were with Jake, I would probably try -in vain- to fend off sexual advances before finally being overwhelmed, giving in, then being caught just as the elevator started working again.
03. What talent do you wish you had? Play piano by ear
04. Favorite place? I will spare y’all the really corny answer and just say - at home!
05. Favorite vegetable? Cabbage or black-eyed peas
06. What was the last book you read? I’m currently reading Sky of Swords: A Tale of the King’s Blades
07. Are you Dirty or Clean? Umm.. literally or figuratively? :P
08. Any Tattoos and/or Piercings? Yes. I have a largish tattoo on my right calf, and both my ears are pierced. My tongue was pierced once before, but I got tired of it.
09. Worst Habit? Thinking too much and inventing problems
10. How did we meet? Mary and I met through an MSN group
11. What’s your philosophy on life? Well, it used be to, “Everything happens for a reason.” Now, I don’t guess I really have a sum-it-up-in-a-few-words philosophy on life. I just TRY my best to make the most of the good moments and get through to the next day with a bit of sanity intact.
12. Negative or Optimistic? Both, I guess. I’m a lot more pessimistic than I used to be, but honestly, I’m not sure if it’s pessimism or just realism. There’s a difference.
13. What was your dream growing up? The only thing I remember dreaming a lot about was horses. Having them, riding them… I love horses.
14. What is the best thing that ever happened to you? Jake
15. What was your first impression of me? Style! That girl has SO much style.
16. Tell me one weird fact about you: The sexiest character in the LotR movies to me was Gimli, the dwarf. You know what… DON’T look at me like that. Another one: I only use the left SHIFT key on a keyboard/typewriter, but I type “properly” otherwise. (I know this says ONE weird fact, but the second one is actually the one I couldn’t remember when I was first going to answer this question, so I amended and added it. Too bad if you don’t like it.)
17. Whats your favorite memory of us? Hmmm. Probably just talking about boys at different times.
18. Tell me your favorite joke: Well, my most recent favorite joke is VERY non-PC, so I don’t think I’ll share it here for fear of making others think I’m a bigot when I’m really not. But… well, I really like this joke, too:

A teacher is explaining biology to her 4th grade students.

“Human beings are the only animals that stutter,” she says.
A little girl raises her hand. “I had a kitty-cat who stuttered,” she volunteered.
The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become,
asked the girl to describe the incident.

“Well,” she began, “I was in the back yard with my kitty and the
Rottweiler who lives next door got a running start and before we knew it,
he jumped over the fence and into our yard!”

“That must’ve been scary,” said the teacher.
“It sure was,” said the little girl.
“My kitty went ‘Fffff, Fffff,Fffff’… and before he could say “Fuck,” the Rottweiler ate him!”

19. Have you ever kept anything from me? I don’t know, really.
20. What do you think of me as a Person? You’re a very sensitive, intelligent, and beautiful individual!
21. Do you think I’m sane or insane? A bit insane, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Most good artists are.
22. Would you cry for me if I died? Of course
23. Would you be my crime partner or my conscience? Conscience
24. If you could change anything about me, would you? No
25. How do you fall asleep? Recently… in the least painful position possible. I don’t think I’ve really found one yet.
26. Ever gotten angry with me? I don’t think so.
27. Would you go on a blind date if I set you up? Nope. I don’t do blind dates. Besides, dating is OUT for me now.
28. If you had one day to live, what would you do? I would spend it with Jake doing various things we enjoy doing together. Heh.
29. A million bucks.. what would you do with it? Smack it into an interest-bearing account, give away some, buy a house, and then do whatever I wanted to within reason. I’d definitely call in rich.
30. What is your worst fear? That an inmate will “squirrel” (that’s their CO terminology, I think) Jake one day, and I will lose him.
31. Favorite thing to do in your spare time? Hang out at home, watching t.v., chillin’, talking, hanging out at Teresa’s
32. Can you sing or dance? Yes, I can sing. I suppose I can dance alright.
33. In one word, how would you describe me? Be honest…. Hip
34. Will you repost this so I can fill it out ? I guess so. I’m wondering if I should’ve posted my responses as comments on Mary’s LJ. I DID IT WRONG! WAAAAAA!

:P

Bah

Posted in General at 8:52 am by Jules

It’s Monday, and I *so* don’t want to be here at work. Life is a bit difficult for me right now for many reasons, and I just seem to be out of it most of the time. The LAST place I want/need to be is here. But… bills dictate it, so here I am. :)

Seems like most of our weekend was spent running around and not much of it spent “relaxing.” We got some cool video games, though. God of War (which Jake is playing, and man.. it looks pretty damn cool), Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee (which I’m currently playing, and it’s neat but irritating sometimes), Trivial Pursuit, and Tekken Tag Tournament. One crappy piece of info we found out this weekend is that GameStop has purchased the Rhino chain, so there goes the lifetime warranty on ALL games, the trade-ins for store credit (I think), and the 7-day unlimited return/exchange policy on games. *sigh* Just when we need them most, they do this. Typical.

It’s difficult to give up a huge part of your life even though you know it’s the best thing to do. I guess the current trend of actions and emotions will be temporary. I hope so! :)

Well, here’s to hopefully a better rest-of-Monday!

Things Stressed People Say At Work

Posted in General at 10:29 am by Jules

THINGS STRESSED PEOPLE SAY AT WORK

(The bold/italicized ones are my personal favorites!)

1. Okay, okay! I take it back. Unfuck you.

2. You say I’m a bitch like it’s a bad thing.

3. Well this day was a total waste of make-up.

4. Well, aren’t we a damn ray of sunshine?

5. Don’t bother me, I’m living happily ever after.

6. Do I look like a people person?

7. This isn’t an office. It’s hell with fluorescent lighting.

8. I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

9. Therapy is expensive. Popping bubble wrap is cheap. You choose.

10. Why don’t you try practicing random acts of intelligence and senseless acts of self-control?

11. I’m not crazy. I’ve been in a very bad mood for 30 years. (viked from Steel Magnolias - except it was 40 years)

12. Sarcasm is just one more service I offer.

13. Do they ever shut up on your planet?

14. I’m not your type. I’m not inflatable.

15. Stress is when you wake up screaming and you realize you haven’t gone to sleep yet

16. Back off!! You’re standing in my aura.

17. Don’t worry. I forgot your name too.

18. I work 45 hours a week to be this poor.

19. Not all men are annoying. Some are dead.

20. Wait…I’m trying to imagine you with a personality.

21. Chaos, panic and disorder … my work here is done. (When I read this, it reminded me of Unfy for some reason. Heh.)

22. Ambivalent? Well, yes and no.

23. You look like shit. Is that the style now?

24. Earth is full. Go home.

25. Aw, did I step on your poor little itty bitty ego?

26. I’m not tense, just terribly, terribly alert.

27. A hard-on doesn’t count as personal growth.

28. You are depriving some village of an idiot.

29. If assholes could fly, this place would be an airport.

W-2s

Posted in General at 4:29 pm by Jules

And it starts.

Every year. Every… fucking… year… people start calling us on the 2nd of January (or whatever our first day back at work is) and bugging us about when they’ll be getting their W-2s. I’ve already had TWO people call today.

ARGH!

Welcome Back

Posted in General at 1:21 pm by Jules

First day back at work.
Do I want to be here? Nope.
Am I glad to be out of the house and in adult company for more than a few hours a day? Yep.
Has it been a good first day back? Eh, I suppose.
Am I caught up on everything yet? Fuck no!

And now… I’m off to try and play catch-up a little bit more.
