I Wonder Why

I wonder why.
My life is rife with pain.
I ache and long --
for comfort
for love
for peace
My heart sings.
My head mutes it.
I dream of the pain dissipating.
I dream of wanting no more.
I wonder why.
I just am, I suppose.
